Kurusan is a community of martial artists dedicated to an integral learning environment and devoted to fostering a positive change in your mind, spirit, and body.

Who we are

Kurusan is seeking to help everyone enjoy the practice of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Kickboxing, and martial arts in general. We teach effective strategies and techniques for self-defense, but most importantly, we help our students recognize that the techniques they learn are a path to achieving optimal performance when the circumstances demand it. At Kurusan, we encourage our students to flow and follow the path of least resistance.

Tchoumba has been practicing martial arts for more than 30 years, and is a combat decorated Marine. He believes in the power of Jiu-Jitsu as a mechanism to help us use our mind, body, and spirit to become the best we can be. He teaches all students in a spirit of optimism, and a tenacious belief in human progress. He prefers to teach small groups - transformation can’t be mass-produced. Tchoumba's approach to teaching, learning, and growth is expansive and ever-evolving. He only has one goal: to make your experience revelatory with each class.

Moises’ journey in martial arts started in 2006 when he began practicing Goju-Ryu Karate with Shijan Shunji Sudo Tanaka leader of the International Goju-Ryu Karate-Do Federation Headquarters in Venezuela. He trained and taught Goju-Ryu Karate at this organization and eventually got his black belt in 2012. While still training Karate, Moises began training Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu with the Team Nova União in 2012 as well. Later in 2014, Moises moved to Colorado where he continued training Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and Kickboxing at the Kurusan School lead by Professor Guy-Patrice Tchoumba. Moises received his Jiu-Jitsu purple belt in 2020 and he currently trains and works as a Jiu-Jitsu, Kickboxing, and MMA coach at this organization. Both Coach Moises and Professor Tchoumba currently lead the Kurusan Jiu-Jitsu and Kickboxing organization. Moises is constantly looking to improve and grow by learning from his partners, students, and teachers while being true to the values of honor, courage, respect, and discipline of martial arts.

Coach Shane is a blue belt Jiu-Jitsu practitioner who grew up in Plano, Texas and now calls Parker, Colorado home. He's a proud United States Marine Corps veteran who served 8 years and deployed several times. The Marine Corps values of honor, courage and commitment carry through to his current Jiu-Jitsu practice and teaching, as he relies on the consistency and dedication he honed during his time in service. After suffering several injuries related to his military service, Coach Shane was in search of a martial art that was not considered to be a "hard art" and would operate within the boundaries of his physical limitations. In 2018, Shane found Kurusan School of Jiu-Jitsu when he was cheering his two boys on at their Taekwondo class. He saw Professor Tchoumba's bio and was intrigued by their shared experience as prior enlisted Marines. He reached out to Professor Tchoumba, was invited to try out a class, and thus began his Jiu-Jitsu journey. Shane's teaching style is encouraging and friendly and focuses on building a solid foundation and growing from there. He's found Jiu-Jitsu provides a solid mind-body connection that helps him reach his goals both physically and mentally. His training has transformed and simplified the way he overcomes adversity and daily obstacles.

Sabrina began her kickboxing career in Seattle, specializing in cardio-based kickboxing and circuit training. Now, back in Colorado, teaching at the gym where it all started, her approachable yet high-intesity class is one you won't want to miss. She works with empowering you to become your best self whilst teaching you proper form and technique to defend yourself. She has worked with hundreds of individuals sparking their passion for the sport, and cheering you on while you smash those fitness goals!

Zach began his BJJ journey back in 2019. The challenges he's been able to overcome as well as the progress he's been able to gain has been what pushes him to continue his work in Jiu-Jitsu. He's particularly thankful for the instructors in his life and fellow classmates, and hopes to continue that motivation and knowledge of the discipline to his students.
